Formed in 2003, the South Carolina Prescribed Fire Council (PFC) is comprised of individuals representing public agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private landowners who use prescribed fire to manage their lands. Members of the Council see the need to promote prescribed burning by informing our citizens about the important role fire plays in the stewardship of our natural resources and by fostering professionalism among practitioners of prescribed burning. The PFC coordinates with various organizations but functions autonomously.

2025 Annual Meeting - October 15-16, 2025

The upcoming South Carolina Prescribed Fire Council Annual Meeting will be held October 15-16, 2025, in the Pee Dee area of SC.
Oct. 15 -- Field Day- Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge
Oct. 16 -- Annual Meeting- Pee Dee Research & Education Center – 2200 Pocket Road Florence, SC 29506

Annual award nominations

Nominate someone today for one of our Annual Prescribed Fire Council awards! These awards recognize significant contributions in the field of prescribed fire by practitioners, landowners, and advocates.

Anyone may submit a nomination for an individual or group that has demonstrated outstanding service in the following categories:

Private Landowner Prescribed Burner of the Year
Lifetime Achievement for Excellence in Prescribed Fire
Excellence in Prescribed Fire Management, Innovation, or Advocacy

The nomination period for awards is open. The activity period for the award is July of the previous year through June of the current year. Nominations are due September 18, 2025. Please contact TJ Savereno with any award or nomination questions ([email protected])
